New Futures for Birmingham`s Historic Buildings

Friday Photo – Perry Hall

This week I discovered Perry Hall in north Birmingham. You might struggle to see a hall in the distance. That’s because the building which once stood here was demolished in 1927 when Birmingham Corporation (now Birmingham City Council) had to decide on whether they should keep either Aston Hall or Perry Hall.
Perry Hall was once the site of an Elizabethan mansion with ornamental gardens and acres of associated parkland. But the moat remains and still wraps around the land which once housed the building and, today, it’s filled with plenty of wildlife from ducks and herons to geese. The site is now incorporated in what is Perry Hall Playing Fields and was opened as a public park in 1929. This is a little hidden gem in Birmingham.
