New Futures for Birmingham`s Historic Buildings

Friday Photo: Coleshill Hall Farmhouse

Today’s Friday photo is Coleshill Hall Farmhouse on the Birmingham Road in Coleshill. The building is grade II listed and was originally a 17th century coach house and stable block to the Medieval Coleshill Hall, which was demolished in the early 1800’s. When the hall was demolished the coach house and stables lay derelict until it was converted into a farmhouse and put back into use. Today the building again lies abandoned and derelict and is now under threat for demolition on the current site. The HS2 railway development is planned to run through Coleshill, and the farmhouse and three other building over the road (notably made from salvaged material from the original hall) will be demolished for HS2. in responce to this a group of local residents have formed the Coleshill Heritage Rescue Group and have been fighting for the farmhouse to be taken down, rebuilt and restored in safe area of Coleshill. The aim being for it to be brought back to use for the local community and saved as a local heritage asset. We wish this group good luck for this project and hope that this wonderful building can be restored and reused for the local community in a new location if HS2 does go ahead.

Some of this building was built with items procured from the ruined moated medieval manor house.
Its history therefore goes much further back than the building would at first suggest
