Friday Photo: Warley Water Tower

Posted June 14th, 2019 by Ellie Gill with No Comments

Today’s Friday photo (and yet another water tower!) is Warley water tower.

The tower was built in 1939/1940 on a site that stands opposite Warley Woods public parkland. The parkland was designated and opened in 1906 after a campaign to save it from being developed for housing.

Information from the Old Warley Local History Society mentions that on completion the tower was immediately painted a green/grey colour as camouflage during the second world war, and that later the blast from a bomb dropped on the Warley golf course smashed the door and blew out some of the windows.
