New Futures for Birmingham`s Historic Buildings

Friday Photo: Selly Oak Hospital Water Tower

Today’s Friday photo is of the former water tower off Raddlebarn Road, part of the old Selly Oak Hospital complex. The tower is one of the locally listed buildings (at grade B) that was retained on the Selly Oak Hospital site, most of which has been redeveloped for housing.

Some of the original hospital buildings were previously part of the Kings Norton Union workhouse and Kings Norton Union Infirmary. The tower itself was built in 1902, and it currently has planning permission for conversion into three apartments. Let’s hope the finalised conversion plans are sympathetic to this interesting building.
