We are currently recruiting for the second of our three Coffin Works posts; a ‘Volunteer & Operations Manager’ for the Coffin Works, including day-to-day management of the new Newman Brothers heritage attraction.
At the end of September 2014, Birmingham Conservation Trust is opening an industrial heritage attraction located in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter. The Newman Brothers factory, built in 1894 and grade II* listed, made coffin fittings of every description for over 100 years. We are seeking a dynamic leader, with strong organisational skills and management experience, to set up and manage the operational side of the heritage attraction. You will help turn an empty building into an exciting ‘time capsule’, operated by an army of passionate volunteers which you will recruit, train and manage. The Coffin Works will also house up to seven small businesses, and duties will include management of the facilities and services for the whole property.
The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter who can hit the ground running, an enthusiastic ‘people person’, and a great team player who is committed to making heritage accessible to the public. You will have a successful track record in a visitor attraction or similar environment and experience of delivering against commercial targets (retail, membership, admissions). You will also have experience of coordinating events, managing property facilities and services, and of assuming responsibility for all compliance issues, regulations and procedures at a property.
Full-time post (37.5 hours a week, Tues to Sat), initially for 3 years. Based in Birmingham. Salary £24,892. Appointment to begin April/May 2014. This post is part funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
