Be part of a focus group; testing Newman Brothers factory tours on iPad

Posted November 1st, 2013 by Suzanne Carter with 4 Comments

ibook ready for testingI have blogged in the past that we are developing four iBook alternative factory tours for iPad for Newman Brothers – well, delighted to say that the first one is ready and we are ready to test it on the public!!!

While most people will probably book onto a guided tour when they visit our ‘time capsule’ factory attraction from next summer, we wanted to create an alternative type of interpretation where visitors can guide themselves around the factory at their own pace.

We are working with Tiger Features, our film makers, and bITjam – our iBook developers, to create four tours;  a standard factory tour aimed at adults, a tour aimed at families, a tour aimed at teenagers (which a group of young people are in charge of!) and a BSL version of the standard factory tour.

The iBooks include interviews with former workers, the conservation project team, footage of industrial processes, galleries of images, a bit of text and introductory videos for each of the five spaces.

The first of the iBooks – the standard factory tour for adults – will be ready for testing on Saturday 16 November at 3 sessions during the day.

Would you like to be part of this first focus group?

This will be held in a venue in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. If you would like to get involved, then please book your place by contacting suzannecarterBCT@gmail.com. We will provide the iPads and ask you to go through them, either on your own or with a friend or partner (if you want to bring one!) and then give us your feedback. Teas and coffees available. The sessions are about 1.5 hours long.

If you have never used a iPad before, then don’t be put off. One of the things we are testing for is functionality and making sure our instructions work is part of the exercise!

There are 5 iPads so please get in touch as soon as possible to book onto a session. 11.30, 1.30 and 3.30. First come, first served etc…
We look forward to seeing how people respond to them!

Hi Suze, would love to try this out and comment… only problem is I am in a tennis tournament in Shrewsbury that day! 🙁

If i get knocked out early, I might be able to do the 3.30 slot.
