Ward End Park

This week’s Friday photo was taken last Saturday before the snow melted away in Ward End Park. Hard to imagine that it is right by the busy  Washwood Heath Rd. The park is owned by Birmingham City Council and opened as Ward End Park on the 14th May 1904. The lands was thought until 20th Century to be open fields which date back to medieval times.

Birmingham City Council’s, Hodge Hill District Team is now based in the old Ward End House in the park which in some ways is a shame as it would be lovely to see the house as it would have originally been.

If you go over to Ward End Park, it is also worth a walk to the nearby St Margaret Church which was built on the site of  a Church (dated 1516) and features stain glass windows by Edward Burne-Jones. I would recommend finding out when it is open as it was locked the day I visited and the windows have a protective cover to stop them being smashed.
