Gearing up for our Christmas tours: tour guide training

Posted December 8th, 2012 by Suzanne Carter with No Comments

Our candle-lit tours of Newman Brothers start this week. We are delighted we have sold over 75% of available tickets – but we still have some spaces on Wednesday and Thursday, so don’t delay; buy today!

In readiness for the start of the tours, more of our wonderful volunteers have been trained as tour guides and last Saturday our more experienced tour guides Barbara and Michael spent the afternoon with Steve, Janine, Rachel and myself to get us ready for leading groups of visitors around our Coffin Fitting Works over the next couple of weeks.

We went back to the interviews with ex-workers which were recorded when BCT  bought the site at the end of the 1990s. There are so many great stories about the place and the people who worked there. This really was a fascinating family business which ex-workers talk about very fondly – it was like a family. Learn more on our tours…

Janine came into Newman Brothers to have a walk through today and ended up making me 20 pomenders in the dark to trim our Christmas tree! Thanks Janine, you are a lifesaver!

Huge thank you to all our volunteers, without whom, these events would not be possible.
