New Futures for Birmingham`s Historic Buildings

The Friday Photo

Posted November 30th, 2012 by Tracey Thorne with 3 Comments

For this week’s Friday Photo, we thought that, as Birmingham is looking so Christmassy, we should join in.

The Friday Photo was taken in Birmingham Cathedral (1715c) and features the Nativity.  The glass is from one of four windows designed by Edward Burne Jones which were added to the Cathedral between 1885-1891.

Beautiful Christmas stained glass for Birmingham folk to enjoy at this festive time when we think of those less fortunate than ourselves and give gifts to celebrate the birth of our Saviour…..lovely photograph for a sunny Friday…..

During the Second World War The Birmingham Civic Society played a pivotal role in saving the stained glass windows of Birmingham Cathedral from exposure to bomb damage. The Society had them removed and later reinstalled, whilst during the interim, most of the other windows were blown out by heavy bombing.
