Find one of these in Birmingham on Saturday

Can you find the four historical characters hidden within Birmingham City Centre?

The historical treasure trail is based on the growing pastime of ‘geocaching’ – using sets of coordinates, you can use mobile internet or a sat nav to find locations of historical significance in the city centre. At each location will be a character from the past – from a WWI soldier to a medieval knight – who will give you the coordinates of the next mystery location.

To take part head to the starting point between 11am and 4pm on Saturday, July 9th. Here are the starting coordinates: 52.479433, -1.906933 (hint – you can enter coordinates into Google Maps!).

Each participant to complete the trail will be entered into draws throughout the day to win family tickets to the Festival of History, Europe’s biggest live historical event, worth £52 each. And there’ll be tasty treats for the first 50 younger participants too!

If you’re new to geocaching, don’t worry – there are more hints and tips here:

It is FREE to participate in the trail.

For instructions on how to use smart phones or GPS devices to participate in the trail, please visit where you can also find clues to the re-enactors’ locations.  Clues will also be released on Facebook at and Twitter @FestivalHistory, and participants will be encouraged to upload photographs featuring their experiences with the historical characters.
