Friday Photo – Sandwell Priory

Posted May 9th, 2020 by Anne-Marie Hayes with No Comments

This week’s Friday Photo is of the remains of the mid-12th century Sandwell Priory, once a Medieval Benedictine Monastery. Built by William, son of Guy de Offeni, Lord of the Manor of West Bromwich, the priory name derives from ‘Sand Well’, a natural spring which is still present to this day.

The Priory was excavated between 1982 and 1988 with some of the finds on display at the nearby Sandwell Park Farm.
