Brum peace 2When I saw first this view two weeks ago, I was in awe. I could clearly see the bridge between old and new, the good, the bad and the ugly, and the city of a 1000 trades, in all its wonderful and honest glory. The photo was taken from Marco Pierre White, which offers breathtaking views of Birmingham. Out of all the buildings, both old and new, the one that really stood out to me was the Peace Gardens because it’s just so different to everything that surrounds it. Also referred to as the St Thomas Peace Garden, its namesake, St Thomas Church, which was located on Bath Row, was bombed during the Birmingham Blitz in 1940 and almost destroyed. Built as a monument to peace and remembrance, today the gardens offer the opportunity to break away from city-centre life for a moment or two and escape to a little bit.
